We are currently engaged in a series of sermons that will take us through the Gospel of Mark. 

Mark is the second of four  books in the Bible called the gospels (a word which means "good news"). Each of the four gospels provides a unique account of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.

The gospels are a constant reminder of the reality of Christian faith.  As Donald Grey Barnhouse explained, "The central truth of Christianity is a record of historical fact. It is not a philosophy, it is not a system of morality, but it is history. It is the true good news for men and women."

The Gospel of Mark is one such historical record. Mark reveals Jesus as a servant-Savior. Indeed, the whole book can be summarized in one verse: Mark 10:45  For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.

In a style that would appeal to the Roman mind, Mark presents a fast paced account, emphasizing action more than ideas. After all, servants are recommended by their work more than their words. Yet Mark also speaks to the modern mind because "servanthood" is the heart of discipleship.

We know that God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8) Since Jesus was willing to die so we could have eternal life as a free gift, we ought to be willing to live that life for Him. If then we are to live lives pleasing to God, we must follow Jesus in a life of service, with a servant attitude and a servant heart. Mark helps us to see the example Jesus set for the life of His Father's servants.

Every Sunday after  joining their folks for  praise and worship, kids at NUBF head to Kid's Church  where they have their own Kid-Sized Bible time. We use quality teaching materials from Gospel Light.
